Commonwealth summit discusses future trade agreements
Revitalizing our historic alliances in a fractured world.
In a world of shifting alliances and untrustworthy superpowers, Canada would do well to look to its roots. The Commonwealth is more than a historical artifact; it is a network of nations sharing a common legal tradition, language, and respect for parliamentary democracy. CANZUK—Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK—represents a natural alliance of like-minded states.
The recent summit highlighted the potential for deeper trade and defense cooperation. Why rely on volatile markets when specific free movement and trade deals could be struck with our cousins across the ocean? We share a Head of State, we share values of liberty and rule of law.
It is time to pivot away from an over-reliance on international bodies that have become bureaucratic nightmares and focus on strengthening ties with our traditional friends. A strong Commonwealth bloc could stand as a third pillar of the West, alongside the US and EU, projecting stability and shared prosperity.
